During this process, you should understand that the client wouldn’t even know much about the process and how these systems work. Helping them get acquainted with the process can build trust and focus on goals that are not just sales-oriented.
Next thing you need to do is to suggest the options that are available to you. You will have dozens of accounting systems to choose from. You can inform your clients about them as they wouldn’t be too knowledgeable about the pros and cons of each of these systems. They need to do more than just to have a look at product name and features and will need to do some research of their own.
One of the most important things to consider is the challenge that comes with using any accounting system. You should make your clients aware of the possible issues with these systems, such as – price, security, schedule and time deadlines, etc. This will allow them to plan accordingly and deal with the situation better. Now, you may take all the precautions in the world and exercise your technical skills, but quite often things do not fall in the place with the accounting system.
The reason there are chances of things going wrong are simple – they are two in number. One, what you recommend may not be implemented in the right manner by your client. In that case you should work with them to develop a better implementation.
Secondly, the recommendation made by you may not be right. The best thing to do in this situation is to be honest with your client. This won’t be easy, but if you want to earn the trust of your client you should offer the right solution for them which can help save the situation in such cases.
